Description

The Count of Monte-Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is a novel written by Alexandre Dumas in collaboration with Auguste Maquet. Completed in 1844. It is a novel partially inspired by true events. The ancient Egyptian novel (the wandering navigator) had a great impact on this novel.

The novel tells how on February 4, 1844, that is, at the beginning of the reign of Louis XVIII, and on the day Napoleon Bonaparte left the island of Elba, Edumund Dontes, a 19-year-old young sailor, the second man on the Pharaoh's ship, arrived in Marseille to be engaged on the second day to his beloved Mercedes. He was betrayed by two of his jealous friends. He was ruled as a conspirator with Napoleon Bonaparte, and was imprisoned in the Chateau d'Or prison across from Marseilles. After 14 years of despair at first, and then hardened by his colleague, Father Faria, he managed to escape in the end and seize the treasure that Father Faria had hidden and left on the island of Monte Cristo. He became rich and powerful and began his journey of systematic revenge against those who imprisoned him.

The novel is one of Alexandre Dumas's best known works with The Three Musketeers, both in France and abroad. It was initially published in Ali's newspaper in two parts, the first part was in 1844, and the second part was in 1846.
